Nanotechnology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Nanotechnology and Nanoscience is new and exciting field in today world. This technology and science deal with the study and making of tiny objects, measuring between 1 to 100 nanometers. These objects are the basis for the development new high technology products in nowadays.
The Hebrew University’s Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology takes this challenge and open a research center to study the nano world. This Center consists of researchers from many departments. The researches try to indentify the nanoscopic characterization and describe the nanometric structure. The Center contains a unit for manufacturing a nano technology.
The first phase to build this center, the nanoscopic characterization unit has already been set up. In this unit you will found electron microscopy, scanning probe microscopy, and other high technology equipments. This unit supports multidisciplinary research and transfer technological knowledge.
The second phase is creating a unit for nanofabrication and preparation of nanometric structures. This second phase is in the way to go. The researchers will be able to prepare electrodes and various devices that will enable to integrate the nanometric object and system in macroscopic world.
This nano research covers some industries like semiconductors, medicine and telecommunications. In Semiconductor industries, the researchers are focus on creating nanostructured semiconductors, superconductors and composite materials. In Medicine Industries, the focuses are on single cells study, and quantify the cells into molecular level. In telecommunications industries, researchers are focus on nanophotonics and optofluidic components and devices to provide smaller, faster and more reliable communications. Some of these industrial nano applications are already in commercial success state, and some still in testing stage.
The researchers are come from selected people from many departments at Technology Transfer University. The combination of multidisciplinary scientists enables development of nano objects easier. Those departments are department of physical chemistry, department of inorganic chemistry and faculty of medicine.
To transfer the technology to the marketing there are marketing and legal professionals from Yissum (the Technology Transfer Services Company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem). These professionals help the research center to make their product marketable and comply with any patent.
The nano technology has challenged this research center to research better products. This Center will be a based for the development of future high technology in Jerusalem and Israel. The vision of the Hebrew University is to turn the nanoscience and nanotechnology students into the future generation of high technology in Israel.
This Center is to prepare the world becomes more global, and science needs to focus on smaller matter.
